Trees and their Economic, Cultural and Environmental Usage

Another writer's delight INTRODUCTION He who nurtures trees grows life and gives nature chance to exist. It is said that trees have important roles to play in society both in giving life, acquiring knowledge and promoting culture as well as other aspects. There are many ways in which humans can sustain their life, belief, value and economic involvement and trees are part of this. LITERATURE REVIEW According to the Oxford dictionary, a tree is any large plant, not exactly defined but typically over four meters in height; with a single trunk which grows in girth with age and branches and grows in circumference with age. Life in the Mirror

Someone lives in my mirror, I know this because, every night, at midnight, my room temperature drops, and I hear a squeaky sound, near my closet, where my mirror stands, and there he was. Three nights ago, as I recall, I was battling with insomnia, I lay helplessly on my bed, staring at the ceiling. I wandered far away from the reality of the world, into my imagination. I jolted back in fear, as something fell on the floor. I checked my watch, at midnight. I wore my pyjamas, taking slow and sluggish strides to switch on my light. I loved to sleep with my lights off, I squinted my eyes a bit, to adjust to the light. I walked past the door and the mirror. I stopped in my tracks, as I saw a reflection— a different reflection, different from mine.  I faced the mirror, I stared at it for a while, something was off. "Maybe, I'm just hallucinating. I should get some sleep." I said to myself, yawning as though I were a hungry lion. I woke up the next morning, as the sun peeked th...

Pele dies at 82

Image
Brazil football legend Pele, one of the greatest players of all time, has died at the age of 82. The former striker, who is the only player in history to win three World Cups, passed away at the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo following a battle with cancer. A message from Pele's official Twitter account on Thursday read: "Inspiration and love marked the journey of King Pelé, who peacefully passed away today. Love, love and love, forever." Pele, who is Brazil's joint all-time top scorer with 77 goals in 92 matches, became an icon of the game after winning the World Cup in 1958 as a 17-year-old, netting twice in the final to defeat hosts Sweden. Pele, born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, to a poor family in Sao Paulo, won the 1958, 1962 and 1970 World Cups with Brazil. Injury restricted his contribution to Brazil's triumph in 1962 in Chile but he was player of the tournament eight years later, as Brazil assembled one of the greatest sides of all time and lifted ...

See how Nigeria made a very big mistake that made us be this backwards

Another writer's delight Wilsonchnns The biggest country in Africa that the United Kingdom colonized is Nigeria. The biggest country that the United Kingdom colonized in Asia is India (which then comprised present Pakistan and Bangladesh). When the UK came into Nigeria and India, like all other countries they colonized, they brought along their technology, religion (Christianity), and culture: names, dress, food, language, etc. Try as hard as the British did, India rejected the British religion, names, dress, food, and even language, but they did not reject British technology. Today, 80.5% of Indians are Hindus; 13.4% Muslims; 2.3% Christians; 1.9% Sikhs; 0.8% Buddhists, etc. Hindi is the official language of the government of India, but English is used extensively in business and administration and has the status of a “subsidiary official language.” It is rare to find an Indian with an English name or dressed in a suit. On the other hand, Nigeria embraced, to a large extent, the B...

ABUJA AND NIGERIA

*Abuja is probably the worst-hit of Nigerian cities by this recession. It is only understandable: Abuja works at nothing but revels in wanton opulence, fed strictly from pens adding zeroes behind a whole number. Its buildings are populated with straw companies gliding on patronage and privilege, not rights, merit and productivity. Most of its inhabitants are currently in what seems a state of disbelief, if not shock.*  *I walked vibrantly to Sheraton two weeks ago and from the gate, you got a surprise: no line of traffic! The lounge was empty as the car park was vacant. I sat in surprise at the little corners of decay creeping into the lounge, part of which was even poorly lit. Of course, even Maitama and Asokoro are wrapped in thick darkness these days at 8 pm if grid power fails.* *I was surprised at the black silence I met in these desolate palaces. Everywhere signs hang on homes and high-rise office buildings begging for tenants. I called a number on one and the voice th...

Anambra state Governor bans bet9ja, nairabet, 1960bet, casino and other gambling in the state, is this not wahala for the youths?

Image
Popular gambling services in Nigeria include Bet9ja, 1960bet, Nairabet, 9jaPredict and BetNigeria. Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has banned the operations of casinos and gaming centres in the state, including BetNaija over alleged "dark deals". The notice of the ban is contained in a statement jointly signed by the Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr Donatus Onyenji; Chairman, Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, Richard Madiebo and the Commissioner for Homeland Affairs, Chikodi Anara. According to the statement, the ban is a sequel to a worrisome number of petitions recently received by the government concerning the manipulation of casino machines and non-transparency in payment for winnings. According to him, these fraudulent acts won't happen under the governor's watch. The governor suspends these betting activities till further notice as regulators are on the watch to make sure any irregularity is corrected to keep the citizens...

Inspirational words that changes your ideas

Image
The writer's delight ☺ There's no such thing as a wasteful opinion. Every idea counts, but the idea that any person who tries to do everything achieves nothing is wrong. 👍 Narrowing the focus is cool, and upping the quality by doing one thing at a time is fantastic but have you thought divide and conquer is the most powerful weapon and would work? 😁 Amazon isn't the biggest selling e-mail for nothing but because it doesn't have one particular thing for sale but a variety of quality things. Everyone has tactics that work for them 100 per cent, and if you have yours it may work perfectly for you. You should do what makes you happy, even if it's having one or two extra skills or professions, doing what you like isn't a bad idea after all. 😊 It simply means you have more sources for more income, the value you placed on two different works you do very well is better, and you are doing pretty well trust me. Don't quit because people are talking and I love you ...

QUEEN ELIZABETH II stories of life, death and signs Queen Elizabeth II has died "peacefully" at age 96 after being placed on medical supervision, according to Buckingham Palace.
